Welcome to novato high school - UPDATE
Dear Parent and Students
After a 38 year career in education, I will be retiring as Principal of Novato High School, effective June 30, 2014. I can honestly say that being part of Novato High School and the Novato Community for 10 years has been the best professional experience of my life.
I have enjoyed the many hundreds, if not thousands, of students I have connected with over these last ten years, their fabulous parents, and the many teachers, staff, counselors, administrators, board members, and district staff that have given us their support and commitment to making NHS a world class school.
I am proud of the work that NHS/MSA has accomplished, and I will walk away knowing that no one person could have accomplished the many wonderful things we have created together.
We are a school, a community and a family. Working together, we have made something special at NHS.
I would like to thank everyone for the opportunity to serve this wonderful community.
The school year is not over. There is still a lot of work and planning to be done prior to graduation. We are currently in the midst of planning for the remainder of this year and developing preliminary plans for next year.
The process to select a new principal is underway under the direction of Ms. Pam Conklin, Director of Human Resources for NUSD. She is working with NHS administration, staff and parents to find the most qualified candidate. Interviews are scheduled for mid-March.
Our counselors are busy scheduling student classes for next year. They are working with 9th-11th graders as well as middle school students to ensure all incoming 9th graders are scheduled in appropriate classes.
The administration and staff are building the master schedule of classes for students and teachers. The process is a collaborative endeavor, and we feel confident it will help create an academically enriched curriculum.
We are busy learning and implementing the Common Core Standards, Project Based Learning and many teachers are engaged in various instructional workshops and trainings to improve teaching and learning.
Plans are underway for those important senior activities, as we move towards graduation. Please also remember our before and after school Tutoring Program available to assist any and all students need that extra support as the year draws to a close.
Spring Break is on the horizon and a good time to reflect on what needs to be done prior to the end of school. This is also a great time to catch up on community service hours!
Marin School of the Arts is in full swing. There are still many performances and events planned. If you attended the fantastic MSA Showcase, you know how fortunate we are to have MSA in Novato. We are looking forward to a new dance studio and our new pool possibly to open next spring if not sooner. Wow!
Many students are starting to receive acceptance letters and substantial scholarships to universities and colleges. This is great news!
Students are also gearing up for AP tests that will be given in May. We anticipate over 700 AP tests will be administered at NHS. This is a new school record. Fantastic!
Let’s not forget to attend this year’s NHS Open House. Open House is scheduled for Thursday, March 20, 2014 at 6:00 p.m. We look forward to seeing you there.
We are continuing to make every effort to ensure that your student receives a quality education with challenges and opportunities for success in a safe environment that promotes learning.
Thank you for all your support!
